Carnival Drumming Workshop.jpg
Carnival Drums with Oliver Rivera Drew

// Every Tuesday from 13.08. until Carnival for the Future// Free //Artistania Atelier

Course content: You will begin with an introduction to the traditions and styles of carnival drumming, followed by basic rhythms and techniques. There is an exploration of the key carnival rhythms and techniques for maintaining tempo and dynamics, with group exercises to improve timing and coordination.

You will also incorporate additional percussion instruments such as tambourine, shaker, and cowbell into your drumming patterns to enrich the sound. Advanced rhythmic structures and polyrhythms will be explored, and techniques for seamlessly transitioning between complex rhythms will be taught.

Mastery of dynamic control and expressive playing is emphasized, with a focus on techniques for dynamic variation and musical expression. Group practice fosters these skills in a supportive environment.

As the course progresses, you will rehearse as a cohesive drum ensemble and develop effective communication and collaboration skills. The course culminates with a final rehearsal in preparation for the live performance at Carnival for the Future, including tips for a successful performance and a simulated performance.

Physical Theatre/MaskenLAB for the “Carnival for the Future”

Tuesday, September 10th and 17th, 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

In this Physical Theatre/MasksLAB we will explore our bodies together as a form of expression and as a tool for creating images. We will examine our relationship with our bodies and the possible nature of our masks. How does the character move? Which part of my body is more present? Is it an extension of my body, or does it have its own world?

In the context of the Carnival for the Future, we will also focus on our environment. How do my body and character relate to the environment they are in and how do they change within it? We will explore different levels, rhythm changes and interventions that arise both within and outside of us. There will be group and partner exercises to better understand dynamics and tune in to connection. How do I or my character interact with others? We will observe how actions evoke reactions in intuitive ways and how images emerge from the audience's perspective.

If you already have your own mask, please bring it to the LAB. If you haven't had the chance to make one yet, Artistania will have some masks available to borrow during the workshop.

21+22.9.2024 from 2 to 7 p.m. // Donation basis
Artistania Atelier

We are excited to present a collaborative songwriting workshop focused on issues of social and environmental justice. This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to reflect and express their visions for a more just and sustainable future through the power of music.

Inspired by the Songs For Rights method and improvisational approaches, the exercises will create the conditions to improvise with creative confidence. By breaking down moments of deep listening and personal expression, we will connect intentions through the playful and creative music process.

This is a unique opportunity to write and compose a song that captures the spirit of change and justice, expresses your authentic personality, and allows you to experience the impact of collaborative music creation.

Cyanotype meets upcycling // Carnival for the future // With Johanna Fischer

21.9+22.9.2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. // Donation basis
Artistania Atelier

In two exciting units you will learn the fascinating art of cyanotype.

In the first 3-hour unit, you will discover how to create unique prints on paper using plants and objects found in nature and the environment. You will learn about the traditional photographic process of cyanotype and put your creative ideas on paper.

The second unit is all about upcycling! You bring white or light-colored items of clothing from home - for example a white T-shirt or light-colored jeans. Together we will refine these pieces with our own cyanotype prints. This creates completely individual carnival jewelry that is guaranteed to be an eye-catcher!

We will proudly present the results of our creative work at the Carnival for the Future on October 5, 2024. Our workshop is intended to help us treat the environment and resources with care. We come together in a diverse group to creatively create something that makes us aware of how to treat ourselves, our fellow human beings and the environment with care. We show that something new can emerge from something old and that creativity is a way to live more consciously and sustainably.

The workshop does not require any previous knowledge. Let yourself be enchanted by the magic of cyanotype and join us as we immerse ourselves together in the colorful, transformative world of carnival for the future!
